Activities Around Invercauld Estate
There are few outdoor activities that cannot be undertaken in the area - everything from quiet bird-watching walks through to paragliding off the hilltops attract their enthusiasts. The Braemar Guide Website contains extensive links to accommodation and facilities in and around Braemar, as well as history and local information

Glenshee Ski Centre, a 10 minute drive from Braemar, is Scotland's largest winter resort. Ski tourers and mountaineers enjoy the rolling plateaux around Glenshee, or head for the higher Cairngorm tops for classic traverses on their high summits. With the UK's largest ski lift system, Glenshee's 25 miles of piste extend over three valleys and four mountains over 3,000ft to give extensive and enjoyable skiing and snowboarding. Nursery slopes adjacent to the main car park are an ideal starting place for beginners. With many lifts starting at carpark level, there is an easy transition to the much larger area of novice runs. Then, as an intermediate, there is a great choice of 26 blue and red runs. A further two excellent black runs have been a formidable part of the Scottish experience for many years for experienced skiers. Ski/Snowboard hire and instruction also available.

The Braemar area also hosts a core of telemark skiers; the area offers excellent touring and descents with a snow season that can last from November through to May.

The Braemar Gathering is always held on the 1st Saturday in September. There are now 66 events, the prize money totals over £12,000. Booking enquiries www.braemargathering.org.

Braemar Golf Club has the highest 18 hole course in Great Britain. The new clubhouse is licensed and catering is available for members and visiting golfers. (Tel +44 (0) 13397 41618). Many other world-class golf courses are within easy reach.
